Research Peptide Supplier Evaluation Checklist
Nine documentation and receiving checks that help a laboratory distinguish verifiable information from unsupported marketing.
How to use this checklist
Apply the same review to every supplier and every lot. Record the source of each fact, preserve the relevant documents with the purchasing record, and treat missing or ambiguous information as an unresolved question—not as evidence.

Material identity
Confirm that the listing, order record, physical label, and supporting records use a consistent compound or blend name.

Sequence and modifications
When relevant, document the stated amino-acid sequence, termini, conjugations, salts, or other modifications.

Lot traceability
Look for a unique lot or batch identifier that connects the physical package to the applicable analytical record.

Analytical method
Record which method produced each reported result, when it was performed, and which lot was tested.

Result interpretation
Distinguish identity from purity, quantity, sterility, endotoxin status, and fitness for an experiment; one result does not prove the others.

Strength and format
Confirm the stated amount, concentration where applicable, physical form, packaging format, and exact option selected.

Handling plan
Establish material-specific storage, receipt, handling, spill response, and disposal controls before the package arrives.

Use restrictions
Review supplier restrictions, institutional approvals, and every law or policy that applies to the laboratory and compound.

Commercial transparency
Confirm price, availability, fulfillment terms, cancellation rules, and a working method to contact the supplier.
Read records precisely
A test result should answer a defined question.
Identity, purity, quantity, sterility, endotoxin status, and biological activity are different attributes. A result for one attribute does not automatically establish another. Review the named method, sample or lot, result, unit, date, and stated limitation before relying on a document.
Likewise, a polished certificate is not self-validating. The practical value comes from whether the document can be connected to the physical lot and whether the reported method supports the claim being made.
Red flags
Stop and resolve these gaps before purchasing.
- The supplier makes medical, therapeutic, or personal-use promises.
- A package has no lot identity or cannot be linked to its analytical record.
- A purity number appears without a method, result context, or tested lot.
- The product name, strength, or format changes between the listing and label.
- There is no transparent research-use policy or working contact channel.
- The supplier treats a certificate as proof of sterility, safety, or suitability when those attributes were not tested.

Does a certificate of analysis prove a peptide is suitable for every experiment?
No. A certificate records stated results for a particular sample or lot under particular methods. It does not automatically establish sterility, safety, biological activity, or fitness for a laboratory's intended experiment.
Is a purity percentage the same as identity?
No. Purity and identity answer different questions. Laboratories should review which analytical methods support each claim and whether the records correspond to the received lot.
Why does lot traceability matter?
Lot traceability helps connect the received package, purchasing record, analytical documentation, internal inventory, and experimental record to the same material.
What is an immediate supplier red flag?
Examples include medical or personal-use claims, missing contact information, no lot linkage, unexplained test results, inconsistent labels, or claims that one analytical result proves safety or suitability.
